| I have come to realise that the proposition is not so much about solar home systems, but about battery connected cooking. Even in the original note I thought that the subsystem of battery/controller/cooking hob might have application in slums – where poor connections may not be happy having 1kW drawn through them, but a trickle charge of a battery during a day could give the household something to cook on in the night. I now realise that there may actually be a market even in regular (non poor) households in some countries.

| The following are the assumptions we are making when advocating research into, and strategic deployment of Solar Electric Cooking (SEC). I am creating a document where a 'Column 2' will provide the evidence for our assumption where available. But if anyone wants to comment on or suggest another assumption, thats the point of a blog. :)

| So the first fail has occurred. Having decided to set up 'battery cooking' in his kitchen in relation to solar electric cooking, Simon found that the terminal got so hot that it melted the cheap weak clip for the charger.

| So having started to discuss whether by 2020 a portion of the 3 Billion who currently cook on solid fuels could cook with Solar Electric, we decided we should start with ourselves to see if its feasible. |

| The eAg site are organising another online discussion based on ideas presented in the ICT in Agriculture Sourcebook. They have done a number of these discussions around topics from the World Banks sourcebook, and they often have really good subject matter experts. 12th - 23rd November! |
